Hailing from a town first inhabited by criminals, prostitutes, profiteers and bushrangers comes Disconnect Records, a punk rock record label tearing down the fences and thrashing the airwaves to within an inch of their life.

Run by bands and fans, for fans and bands, Disconnect Records aims to show the world that Tasmania isn’t just that pointy bit at the bottom of a big island. For way too long there’s been a water-filled ditch keeping us in solitary confinement. There’s blood on the line, sweat on the floor and more than enough to go round.

Disconnect is here to break the chains and let slip the dogs of war.

MY DISCO - May 17

MY DISCO are set to return to Hobart for their fourth tour in three years, on the back of their newly-released album Paradise. The album, recorded by infamous producer Steve Albini at Electrical Audio Studio B in Chicago, sees the Melbourne trio exploring new directions in minimalistic post-punk robotic groove.

Paradise follows the 2006 release of their debut album, Cancer, and the Language Of Numbers EP. The band recorded the album whilst on an extensive tour of the US late in 2007.

For trainspotters, Ben Andrews from MD is also involved in the AGENTS OF ABHORRENCE and MAGNETICS projects. The band's previous musical ventures have included the amazing CLANN ZÚ, HEARTFELTSELF, and DAYS OF IRIS.

MY DISCO will play a one-off show at Hobart's Republic Bar on Saturday 17 May with THE SCANDAL and THE NATIVE CATS. Tickets will be available on the door for $10.

Shows, shows, everywhere! November 26 2007
Hey, hey, hey everyone!

Our bands are going to hate the sight of Taragos and dotted white lines by the end of summer - because this summer is shaping up to be the biggest yet for Disconnect Records.

STAND DEFIANT are returning to the stage after four months off to write their debut album, slated for release on Disconnect in 2008. The boys are playing Tasmania top to bottom as they gear up to take their assault to the rest of the country in March '08.

THE SCANDAL will play their first shows back after almost a year (has it been that long? shit!) after drummer Mat was diagnosed with severe tendinitis in January. After playing their return shows in December, these coffee kids will hit Melbourne and NSW, with QLD dates to come.

BALLPOINT will also return to the stage for their first shows since bassist Jordan went overseas for six months. The lads are shaping up to release their first album on Disconnect Records early in 2008, having released the record in Japan in mid-2007. The album's called Get Loose, and preview copies have been on high rotation at Disconnect HQ. It's going to be a ripper! Stay tuned for more information about release dates and launch shows very soon.

The newest addition to the Disconnect family, Hobart's YOUR DEMISE, are gearing up to release their first EP on Disconnect. They've put a demo up on their myspace page, recorded by none other than Nic Scandal. Check it out and add them HERE!

Team Disconnect winter update - defrost the controls, captain! We're a-frozen! July 5 2007
Hey hey hey punk rockers, and welcome to another winter's worth of Disconnect Records news. There's a shitload of stuff that we have to update you on, mainly because we've been exceptionally lazy and haven't updated this page for a long, long time.

So - enough excuses, let's get to it.

During May we had two awesome shows from two sets of awesome bands, both at Hobart's Republic Bar. The Nation Blue and My Disco joined local indie kids Bad Luck Charms for a, er, charming sell-out show. Music was made, sweat was produced, and it was an awesome show. My Disco then trekked up to Launceston for the first time, playing an intimate show at Launceston's Arts Alive Arts Space with Palm This!. We discovered the joys of Fresh Cafe (thanks gals!) and early-morning mojitos. Thanks to all who made it along to both shows.

A little later on, US folk(ish) punks Against Me! brought the awesome The Draft and rad Melbourne kids A Death In The Family with them, for their third visit to Tasmanian shores, and their third sell-out show. You can't fault 'em still - they had the whole bar singing along like idiots, and even pulled out a couple of older songs for a loud, sweaty encore. Again, thanks to all who came out and sang with us, and especially to all three bands for being not only a great band but great people too.

What's happening in Camp Disconnect, you ask? Well, here's what's goin' down.

Ballpoint have been super busy recording their debut album for Disconnect Records, and it's sounding super sweet. The album will be called Get Loose, and in really exciting news, will be released in Japan through Inya Face, a Japanese distributor that also does Frenzal Rhomb, NOFX, Parkway Drive, Randy, and a heap more. Get Loose is set to be released on July 14 in Japan, and will feature bonus tracks that won't appear on the Australian release of the album. Check out Inya Face at http://www.punkinyaface.com for more info.

While bassist Jordan is overseas for six months, the boys are taking a break from playing live shows, but will return to playing live with a national tour to launch Get Loose later in 2007. The album is due for release in Australia in October this year. Recorded at Red Planet in Hobart with producer Stu Long (Psycroptic, Stand Defiant), Get Loose sees Ballpoint's songwriting mature and kick it up a notch. Suffice to say that we at Disconnect HQ are very, very excited about this record.

Listen to samples of a couple of new tracks from Get Loose at Ballpoint's MySpace page

Meanwhile, Stand Defiant have been touring and touring and touring, and have just gotten back from Melbourne, where they joined punk rockers MDK for their CD launch, as well as playing support for Behind Crimson Eyes on their recent Tasmanian tour. The boys have been writing material for their forthcoming album, and are set to begin demoing material very soon. They're sounding tighter than ever, and have a bunch of solid songs that will form the backbone of what promises to be a rockin' debut album.

The album promises to be a ripper, and will follow up 2006's Our Own Destruction EP, which was well received, and saw the band taking a heavier, more deliberate approach to its songwriting. Having toured to Perth for the first time earlier this year, the Stand Defiant touring juggernaut has kept rolling throughout the first half of 07, spreading the gospel to punters interstate as well as at home.

Stand Defiant unfortunately may have to take some time off though, as guitarist Reece has been diagnosed with a chronic injury that looks like it will see him be forced to put the axe down for three months at least. This is sad news indeed, and we wish Reece all the best in his recovery from what sounds like a motherfucker of an injury.

Stand Defiant bassist Kenny has been working on a project which sees him take up the guitar, and with any luck this band will take to the stage at some, er... stage soon.

Similarly, The Scandal have been battling injury in their bid to get back on the road. Drummer Mat has been recovering from severe tendinitis, and fresh from releasing their debut album, Never Hold To Shore, in November last year, the band has had to take six months off from touring, and even rehearsing. While itching to get back on stage, the boys have had to content themselves with working on collating and editing footage taken from the Hobart launch show for Never Hold To Shore, which will end up being released in some shape or form by the end of the year. The footage is looking rad, and we're sure that we will see some of you appearing in the crowd when it's released.

The band recently had the closer from Never Hold To Shore, 2547 Minutes, selected by Melbourne's Missing Link Records to appear on the Music Recommenders site, where you can download a copy of the 5-minute song. Check it out at the Music Recommenders site.

So, that's about it from Camp Disconnect. If you play the myspace game, check out all three bands' myspace pages below, as well as the Disconnect Records myspace page. Add us, tell your friends, yada yada. End hype machine.

Thanks for making it all the way through - cheers for your support, and keep an eye out for brand new Disconnect merch designs coming soon (yes, hoodies too, you shivering pirates) and an updated distro section to come very soon.

In the meantime, drop us an email, leave us a comment on our myspace page, listen to some new music, and get out of the house. Occasionally, at least. Okay, at least once a week. While you're sitting at home in the next couple of weeks, remember to watch the Tour De France and check out some of the Disconnect crew's brand new bike punx site Bottles and Chains.

Disconnect presents THE NATION BLUE + MY DISCO March 27 2007

Some bands tell you they have had interesting years. Some bands break bones and bleed, live on stage in front of an Arena of Foo Fighters fans. Those are the bands that have interesting years. The Nation Blue are one of those bands.

To aid bass player Matt Weston's recovery, a trip to Brazil to work on his tan was in order, while guitarist Tom Lyngcoln and Dan McKay were shackled and tortured in a warehouse, before unleashing the fury in the studio, producing the 'Blue's latest and most accomplished album Protest Songs. In between games of tennis, saunas, and nature walks, The Nation Blue recorded some really angry songs in a relaxed environment.

Protest Songs is out now on Casadeldisco Records.

My Disco formed in Melbourne in the summer of 2003, between long term collaborators Rohan Rebeiro, Liam Andrews and Ben Andrews. Since their first public performances, the band have performed in seven countries, including regions of South-east Asia and extensive touring throughout North America.

During this time countless releases and re-issues on often unconventional formats have had limited release.

The 2006 release of their debut album Cancer features a minimalist approach to their song writing, deconstructing ideas within their arrangements. With a conscious focus on stark instrumentation, a concept of space and distinct structure is predominant on this recording. Somewhat of a departure from their previous output, Cancer concentrates less on non-linear time disposition and more towards streamlined ideas that depend upon an emphatic notion of rhythm and atonalality.

The band has just released the latest album on 12" vinyl, and is touring nationally to support the release of the vinyl version of Cancer.

Disconnect presents THE NATION BLUE and MY DISCO
Friday 18 May
Republic Bar, Elizabeth St, North Hobart

Disconnect presents STRIKE ANYWHERE (USA) February 14 2007

After treating Tasmanian audiences to its infectious brand of heart-on-sleeve punk rock for the first time in April 2005 supporting fellow US heavyweights Strung Out, Strike Anywhere return for their own headlining tour, this time in support of their fourth studio album, Dead FM.

Formed in Richmond, Virginia in 1999, the band’s current and only line-up; singer Thomas Barnett, guitarists Matt Sherwood and Matt Smith, bassist Garth Petrie, and drummer Eric Kane, have been sharpening their distinctive brand of melodic punk rock for the past eight years.

Their 2001 debut LP, Change Is A Sound, was released on US indie label Jade Tree, and while 2003’s Exit English was well received in the press and helped the band reach a wider audience, via appearances at the US Warped Tour and tours with acts like Anti-Flag and Rise Against, Dead FM is a return to form for the band.

With the help of longtime producer Brian McTernan (Hot Water Music, Converge, Thrice), the band were able to capture the explosive energy of their live shows for the recording of Dead FM, while also writing the strongest songs of their career.

Strike Anywhere will once again return to Australian shores this March.

The Evens

The Evens are a Washington, DC duo, formed in 2001, comprising of Ian MacKaye (Fugazi, Minor Threat) and Amy Farina (The Warmers). After Ian MacKaye's band Fugazi entered a hiatus, the Evens began practicing extensively, and eventually played a few shows and recorded a self-titled album, released in March 2005 on MacKaye's label, Dischord Records. The Evens are known for their unusual choices in venues for performances and the stylistic change from what many have dubbed the "DC" or "Dischord sound". The Washington Post has described the sound as "what happens when post-hardcore becomes post-post-hardcore."

In June and July 2006, MacKaye and Farina recorded new music that they wrote earlier in that year. On November 6, 2006, they released their sophomore album entitled Get Evens, which featured this new music.

With their second album, The Evens delve further into their own musical backgrounds and come out brandishing a shiny gem of agit-pop, building on the warmth of their debut with a robust, confident record. MacKaye has matured as a songwriter, broadening his scope without losing focus, and he and Farina here offer up a perfectly-formed piece of songwriting. The album was entirely self-recorded in the basement of Dischord House in the summer of 2006, which is reflected in its intimate, lyrical quality.

The Evens will perform a very special one-off show at Hobart's University Studio Theatre on Sunday February 18. The show will be all ages entry. No alcohol will be available or permitted. This will be Ian MacKaye's first trip back to Tasmania since his previous band Fugazi toured in the mid 1990s. It promises to be an evening to be etched into memories for a long time.
